The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reports that motorists traveling westbound on I-4 will have to detour off the interstate using Exit 5 (SR 574/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) from 11:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, to 5:00 a.m., Monday, January 12, weather permitting. This closure will also limit access to the westbound I-4 entrance ramp from SR 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) in Hillsborough County.
During this closure, message boards and temporary signage will direct westbound I-4 drivers to exit the intestate using Exit 5, turn right onto (SR 574) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, turn left onto 50th Street (SR 583), and then turn right onto Columbus Drive to re-enter the interstate using the westbound I-4 entrance ramp.
Motorists should exercise caution while driving through the work zone and remain alert for construction workers.
This closure will allow crew to perform overhead signage installation work as part of the I-4 westbound auxiliary lane project that is adding a travel lane to the interstate between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (Exit 5) and 50th Street (Exit 3) in Hillsborough County.
