Construction of “I-Drive Live”, a new entertainment, dining and shopping complex is “well underway” in Orlando. The highly anticipated entertainment destination, located on 20 acres of property between International Drive and Universal Boulevard is scheduled for a New Year’s Eve 2014/2015 grand opening.

The complex will include attractions, restaurants, retail stores as well as a planned resort hotel rumored to be a Planet Hollywood Hotel. The centerpiece attraction will be “The Orlando Eye”, a 425 ft. tall wheel designed after the London Eye. The eye will include 30 gondolas that sit 15 people each. When completed it will be the tallest structure in Central Florida. Other major attractions will include a 25,000 sq. ft. Sea Life Aquarium and a equally sized Madame Tussaud’s Was Museum. In addition, Kings Bowl, a 30,000 sq. ft. 22 lane bowling and entertainment complex is already open.

Several restaurants have already been announced their intentions including Seafood Republic, Chuy’s Tex-Mex, The Yard House, Red Robin Gourmet Hamburgers, Carrabbas Italian Grill, Outback Steakhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings. In addition there will be Cowgirls Country Western Bar and Sugar Factory candy store/restaurant.

I-Drive Live promises to compete on the same level as Universal’s CityWalk and Downtown Disney. That’s a tall order, but by the looks of things so far they will succeed. We can hardly wait!
