On Friday, Universal Orlando Resort reported that it will reveal some “major” news. The resort will make the announcement at an invite-only media conference on Thursday, August 1 at the Orange County Convention Center. Rumors of the reason for the announcement are circulating throughout the theme park world as insiders guess what will be revealed.
Over the past few years Universal has been accumulating large tracts of land off International Drive. The chunk of real estate is near the Orlando Convention Center and close to their existing theme parks. Rumors have been circulation ever since Universal began acquiring land. Most say it’s likely the announcement will be about Universal’s expansion plans.
Theme park insiders says that Universal now owns hundreds acres south of Kirkman Drive and west of International Drive. Industry insiders have discussed the possibility of building at least one new theme park and several hotels. Permits filed with the state of Florida support those rumors.
