The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will conduct overnight closures of Sand Lake Road beneath I-4 from Wednesday, April 8, through Friday, April 10. Concurrently, the eastbound I-4 on-ramp from Sand Lake Road will be closed overnight on Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9.

These closures commence as early as 11:00 p.m. on April 8 and 9, and 1:30 a.m. on April 11, with all lanes reopening by 5:00 a.m. each day. The final eastbound I-4 on-ramp closure concludes by Friday morning, April 10, while the last Sand Lake Road closure under I-4 reopens Saturday morning, April 11.

During these periods, I-4 exits to Sand Lake Road will restrict motorists to right turns only. These measures facilitate critical bridge demolition over Sand Lake Road, advancing the comprehensive reconstruction of the I-4/Sand Lake Road interchange.

Additionally, FDOT schedules an overnight closure of the eastbound I-4 off-ramp to Sand Lake Road from midnight to 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 9.

Recommended Detours

From Eastbound Sand Lake Road (West of I-4):
Proceed right onto westbound I-4, then exit at Exit 72 onto eastbound S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway). Continue to Exit 1 for International Drive, bearing right to head north. From northbound International Drive:

  • Rejoin Sand Lake Road by continuing north.
  • Access eastbound I-4 via westbound S.R. 528 on-ramp.

From Westbound Sand Lake Road (East of I-4):
Turn right onto northbound International Drive, then left onto northbound Universal Boulevard. From northbound Universal Boulevard:

  • Return to Sand Lake Road via left turns onto westbound Hollywood Way and southbound Turkey Lake Road.
  • Reach eastbound I-4 on-ramp directly from Universal Boulevard.
  • Access westbound I-4 by turning right onto eastbound Tom Williams Way, then right onto southbound Kirkman Road (S.R. 435) to the on-ramp.

From Eastbound I-4 to Sand Lake Road:
Pass Exit 74A and proceed to Exit 75A, turning right onto southbound Universal Boulevard to reach Sand Lake Road.

FDOT urges all drivers to heed posted detour signage. Schedules remain subject to adjustments for weather or unforeseen conditions.

This initiative forms part of the broader project transforming the I-4/Sand Lake Road interchange into a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) while extending I-4 Express lanes for enhanced capacity and safety.
